It truly amazes me… the story of Diabo 3 is so compact you can write it all on a notecard, yet there’s this one thing that’s bugged me ever since I finished… The Tman gets kicked out of the heavens because he doesn’t want to kill Diablo because, well, he just keeps popping back up. Kill him, he comes back! He’s worse than Kenny! And so we enter this crazy adventure to get lots of leet gear and dive into the depths of hell… TO KILL HIM! Did we not learn anything? Did I miss something? The whole point of this exercise of escorting the big ol emo angel around was that he got kicked out for NOT wanting to kill Diablo. W-What?! Why are we back where we started?
Bah!! /stormsoffangrily
Well borderlanss solved that problem the story was not very complex but….it had a lot of snappy lines, good humor and supenful moments. It felt worried when the guardian angel told me I was running out of time!
I loved borderlands! only problem was the ending massively sucked… it was the video game equivalent of the sopranos. really bad! but a great game! borderlands 2 is supposed to be much better.
Endings you say ? ”Hello my name is Casey Hudson and today I will talk about Mass Effect 3 and the artistic integrity ! ”…..
Umm, it has been a little while since i played Diablo III, but 1. Tyrael abandoned heaven he wasn’t kicked out, and 2. i’m pretty sure it was cause heaven wouldn’t do anything to help humanity against hell, not anything having to do with not wanting to kill diablo, but i could be wrong on that second point. But yea definetly left heaven wasn’t kicked out.
lol, sorry, that’s what I meant. he left it. and a lot had to do with the whole cycle thing and tyrael and that other dude butting heads. they had it out a bit and tman was like, forget this shizz and bailed!
something like that.
Having just gotten around to buying/beating the game within the last month, I can honestly say I would have enjoyed the ending more if Diablo were voiced by mc chris
hahahaha! absolutely!
Coffin I completely agree with you on this one. The one shining feature I can think of though is that, if D-Man(Woman?) keeps coming back, hopefully we can get some awesome DLC or expansion out of it. Lords of Destruction was great for D2. My question to you is this though, why are Yellow’s FAR superior to set/legendary pieces? I mean, green/orange drop SOOO rarely, they should be, well, LEGENDARY! But you can kill some random imp with a 5stack and increase your dps by 10k…
I’m trying to figure out what name the new incarnation would be for the MC… Of course, wasn’t he sent back BY Satan? Maybe the big serpent got tired of failure and is going for the world conquer by rap himself?
I’m also very much looking forward to Borderlands2. Had mine on reserve since the day it was announced! I still throw the first one in from time to time. The ending may have been terribad, but the rest of Everything just pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down. My one hope is that they fixed the split-screen thing. I just couldn’t work with the whole vertical split. FPS split is Horizontal gal-darnit!!!
By the way, I absolutely LOVE the fact you censored Diablo’s “armor” XD
I’ve seen some orange gear that’s like lvl 9 go for $250+ on the auction house and it’s worse than my blue magic gear (uhg, wish they just kept the same color system as warcraft!)
Devilz McPoopants?
lol, well after that one comic I did before, I figured he/she’d need some censoring. >)
Usually this is the way MMOs deal with things…but Dungeon crawlers are all about Loot really. There might be patches of good story behind it but rarely they can overcome the main objective of ”Get loot to kill baddie to get BETTER LOOT ! ” It is the MMO mentality but in singleplayer , which means not as fun .
I admit though I enjoy some FUN dungeon crawlers that put their efforts on gameplay and created cool items/gear without forcing themselves to be ”Epic STORY ! ” with 10 min cutscenes. Torchlight was straight forward and fun , now Torchlight 2 is on its way and it’s even more wacky and fun ! Thats what you want from those games, variety of gear/weapons, their cool effects , the feeling of the items ( like if you have a shotgun, it should feel like a shotgun ! ) and gameplay ! But when you try so hard to be epic in cutscenes only to return and click your way out of hordes of demons… well I kinda start to think ” Hey Game , don’t be so uptight ! ”
Personally ? I prefer games with more story based, I mean I player SWTOR because of Story. If I would rate %90 of the reason is that. That probably comes from my earlier experiences with KOTOR games which were amazing. Great balance between looting and upgrading and of course the story / characters.
Those games are hard to come-by lately as we enter the ” more explosions , less playtime ” era….and it saddens me… or worse MORE CUTSCENES , LESS PLAYTIME ( AKA Max Payne 3 )…
yeah, I guess you’re right… I like some aspects of the dungeon crawl, but for me, I just couldn’t get into it. maybe I’ll go back, but for now I beat the game and that’s that.
ha, I played so much single player in swtor! I think that was the main drawback… that it ended up being a single player game with some multiplayer mixed in. sure, wow had a lot of story and lore, but most of it you could just glaze over and grind up to max lvl in a week. for mmos, I think you have to make the endgame first, then make the leveling process fit to match. without a proper highly replayable end game, nobody is going to stick around for very long.
XD not just cut scenes… but quick time events! my god, they should never exist! ok, not never, but look at Saints Row 3, they have just a few bare bones (well, so far) events, usually involving a specific attack you don’t have to do. so yeah, quicktimes should be optional.
Didn’t they Seal him in D2?
hmm, never played d2… only going on what I’ve read, so maybe a d2 vet has a better description. however, by the sounds of it, they’ve been doing this same “kill him, comes back, kill him again” battle for years and years…

I did have to look the theme song up to get it right, but I figured it was worth it :)
AWESOMELY EPIC!!!!! very very cool! TY!!!
I absolutely loathe games that make me grind all the time.
Take Perfect World International for example. For the first 30 lvls its pretty easy to lvl. At lvl 40 they have a special exp garnering quest line to get you to lvl 50. And then you grind. Mind you, the lvl cap was 125 >.> I made it to lvl 82 before I stopped.
Just constant grinding isn’t any fun. You need a good storyline, A purpose to move forward in your quest, to really get into a game.
PW takes the cake when it comes to grind games! anything they make really. Forsaken World actually was not too bad… but it was ALL DAILY QUESTS! so… yeah…
I’m not sure if it’s the grind that’s the problem, rather how you grind… for instance, I could play infinite amounts of Delta Force multiplayer (think, MW3) and it was all the same old maps, but it was fun. still a grind though. but things like mmorpgs where you need to kill 50 boars, well, that’s less fun. I think there’s some kind of psychology thing here… can’t put my finger on what it is, but you know it when it’s not working.
but otherwise, good story is always a good thing! >)
FW is still a grinding game, you just grind daily. XD But I think its more pvp oriented than some of PW’s other games. Though Jade Dynasty makes up for the grind by allowing you to go afk during it but still, being afk all the time isnt fun either.
If you think about it, all rpg games are grinds really. Somebody say “Go kill x amount of y for z reason” But a good story makes up for it cause you are like “Hey, z reason is super important and story advancing. I must do this for the greater good (or your own intresests). That one of the things I love about SWTOR because it does engage you to do your quests. (Though Ima cry when it goes F2P)
I think the real part here is that you are tracking the other evils down to at least banish them for a while, when you find out that Adria is all like, “Hay2u i can banish him 4evr lolol” (direct quote). That leads the hero and T-man on the ensuing epic journey to seal him in this Uber Black Soulstone of Contain-Everyone DOOM and then break it to dissipate his spirit so bad he couldn’t ever come back. At least not for a long, long, long while. So essentially, Tyrael was misled by humans into thinking there was a permanent solution to evil. The part that is deliberately not explained is where the black soulstone was absorbed into Neo-Tathamet (The Prime Evil) and so killing him stands the chance of banishing evil forever. Or it could just, well, not. We find out in the expansion, I’m sure.
ah, true true true! and yes, I believe you quoted that quite precisely! XD
free expansion maybe? lol!!
